Long-distance move from New York to Rhode Island

RUN AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!

HORRIFIC! I have moved 15 times and this was the absolute WORSE experience ever. We were moving my daughter from a small NYC studio apartment to Rhode Island. They quoted us $1140 and same day delivery. When they arrived, they said they would not honor same day delivery, that it would be within 7 days. But wait it gets worse!

They brought 5 guys, of which only 2 were working. We had some items, like pillows that needed packing. One per box. It took them less than 1 hour to pack some loose items and load everything onto the truck. They then came back in and said the move was priced wrong and it was now going to be $4500! Yes, seriously!

My daughter had to be out so we had no choice. They told her if she didn’t agree they were going to dump her stuff on the curb.

ALL, this is a true story and I am seeking legal recourse.

STAY AWAY!

Long-distance move from New York to North Carolina

Bad Experience.

Hi, I recently used Olympus Moving and Storage to transport my furniture from Long Island, NY, to North Carolina. I recently had a bad experence with this moving company so much so that I decided to tell of my experience to forewarn others. The costs for the move will ultimately depend on the cubic foot of the boxes and the furniture you have. Therefore, they will send a person to come to your apartment and make an estimate which they call a "binding estimate". Don't believe for a minute that this estimate has any value whatsoever. This person assured me at least 5 or 6 times that my 20 boxes and furniture will take no more than 600 cubic feet. We signed a contract for 600 cubic foot for approximately $1600. Delivery date was told to be within 5 days of the move but no more. On the day of the move, the movers came and I have to admit they were quite nice and professional. However, after loading nearly all of my agreed upon belongings (and no more, because I'm very particular), I was told by the foreman Don that there may be 700 cubic feet. After they finished loading the truck, I was told it was now 745 cubic feet. Well, now I'm stuck, because I HAVE to move but they revised my "binding estimate" to $2100. Then they ask me to send an email to the company headquarters saying that I agree to the "new contract" which I had to, because I want to move my stuff. The foreman assured me that the goods will be delivered on Monday (4 days later)I drove down 2 days later to North Carolina and, to my disappointment, I was told that it's 5 business days FROM your requested delivery date or 8 days. That's pretty ridiculous. Now I have to live without furniture for 5 days.. I tried calling the dispatcher but the person is very unavailable and doesn't return my calls. I guess if you don't mind paying 25% extra for your goods, being told incorrect information, waiting a ridiculous amount of time, and then getting the runaround, then I would recommend this company because at least the movers were nice.

Long-distance move from New York to Oregon

These guys were awesome!

Olympus Moving and Storage were wonderful. It was my first time hiring professional movers and I was a bit nervous, but they immediately put me at ease. The movers were very professional, efficient, and friendly. They did a wonderful job of moving all my stuff in a careful and prompt manner - including a bunch of fragile arts and furniture’s, which they transported safely and securely.

I am planning to move again in the next few months and the first thing that I will do after looking at places is give Olympus Moving and Storage a call to make sure they can move me again. I will definitely be using Olympus Moving for all of my future moves.

Beware.

We mistakenly booked this mover thinking it was another olympus mover that received great reviews.  It was a small move and they showed up with 4 guys when 3 were quoted and charged me extra.  He insisted on cash payment before they brought in furniture at new location.  The move took less time then they charged. After payment he said they broke an item because it was not wrapped. He offered to discount wardrobe boxes in exchange but then asked  for a tip.  We were feeling intimidated by this point so we gave them one but maybe it was not enough because he left abruptly.  So happy it's over!

Buyer beware.

Never work with a mover that wants cash only.  Was told minimum for local move was 3 hours at $376.  If move took longer would be charged an additional $94.00.  Son was moving at same time, his belongings out, mine in, 2 separate contracts.  Movers arrived at 9 a.m., finished at 11:30 a.m. (this included moving my son's belongings out - separate contract).  This should have been $376, I was told I owed $733 - for 5 hours at 564 plus a 10% tip per person.  I refused to pay this amount - I was told it only took this short a time because they "moved fast" and it should have taken 5 hours.   I had this same load moved from my house into storage - so I knew exactly how long it took the original movers - about 1-1/2 hours total.  Spoke with office, they agreed to accept the $376 and I paid out an $80.00 tip for the uninvolved workers.  I gave the driver $460.00  The driver was the problem, trying to get more cash than owed.  After this they still had my son's furniture on the truck to be delivered.  They called after they left and told me I shorted them $80.00, which I did not, and they backed down when I reviewed what I paid.  They felt I shorted them on the "tip."  At the other end, they refused to start unloading my son until he gave them $600 - which was above his estimate.  They arrived at 9:00 a.m., left at 3 p.m. and collected for 3 hours from me and 4.5 hours from my son.  Driver very dishonest, trying to charge for time not spent.  Also they dropped my file cabinet off the back of the truck and did not tell me, if my husband had not seen it, we would have been out that as well.  My son has numerous damaged boxes with broken items inside.  I packed these boxes, have moved many, many times with no broken items.  Boxes were heavy duty and showed up with dents and rips right through the cardboard.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to New Jersey

Worst move ever.

The problems started when the 'foreman' arrived to start the move.  I believe his name was Almad - he's Algerian - and gave me a quote that was over $1000 over my initial estimate.  Telling me that he was doing me a favor, he went outside to talk to his supervisor, Sam Siton and then came back over an hour later with a quote of $1875.  Be warned, the person who gives you the onsite estimate, also gets a comission on your move so of course its in their best interest to hike your move price up.  Since it was late in the day and I had another lease that had already started, I agreed.  This was my worst mistake - they didn't wrap or cover any of my furniture, complained the entire time that they were hungry and tired, and left my furniture until the end (after having put literally one small item in many boxes - remember the commission and the onsite price).  I had to leave at 8, so I locked up my condo and saw them, upon exiting, trying to fit my furniture into the truck.  We agreed they would stop and eat something on the way from Philadelphia to Plainsboro (about 50 miles) and I would see them in New Jersey.  It got to 10:30 and my fiance called them - they said it was late and raining and they would deliver it in the morning.  We found out they drove back to Brooklyn (passing by us) and moved all my stuff into another truck for another team to drop off the next day.  I spent the night on the floor.  Beware although the contract says its same day delivery they actually have small print that allows them up to 2 weeks..I've moved internationally and I counted at least 25 other moves, this was, by far the worst.  When my furniture showed up it was uncovered, scratched, wet, and none of my boxes were labelled.  And then, when I called the superviser - Sam Siton - he was unreachable that day and didn't really care about my complaint.  Please get another mover!

Olympus Movers.

Helped my cousin move out of her apartment and in with a boyfriend, or thought I was. She had these guys show up to do most of the work. I wasn't even paying and I was impressed. Speedy, efficient, they had the place packed up and my cousin's stuff out of there like the joint was on fire. Had everything delivered before we were ready, and they WAITED till we had the situation in order. All my life I heard New Yorkers were anything but polite, and the Olympus guys proved me wrong and were absolutely fantastic. My cousin was thrilled, I was thrilled, all around excellent service. Highly recommended. *Note:  My cousin paid, so not sure about the cost. Check at their website for details.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Arizona

Stay away - scammers.

I do not believe this company deserves any stars at all.  Scam artists to the core.  I called months ago when I was shopping for a company to move us from Philadelphia to Arizona.  Arabella on the phone was very nice and swore there were no "Hidden" fees.  I honestly should of looked at these reviews first. But let's continue.  Retired military my ex-husband is, we agreed to move together.  I was very clear that we would have 2 houses to move and 2 separate condos to move into. The Philly houses were 2 miles apart and our Arizona residences are 5 doors down to ea other. I truly believe that they saw his military conditions and took advantage.  Site manager sam got to my exes house first as discussed on the day of the move. He went over certain items.  Then they just started packing the truck.  It was not until the truck was half full did sam inform me, nastily I might add, that we had too much stuff and that our 4800 dollar quote was now going to cost 11 thousand! I said no way.  What do we need to do to get back to 4800?  He said we can't get away w 4800 and that the quote was a lie. More than half my furniture and items I had 15 min to throw out.  And we ended up paying over 6 thousand.  Were the items quoted on my initial estimate no longer counted?  There were items "Missing" all a sudden.  Furthermore, when we did the quote, I specified 3 tvs total and one mirror.  If they were going to charge extra to pack those items, I should have had that in my quote.  Not pack them and then tell me!  Sam also kept on and on and on throughout the whole day talking about us tipping them 30%! We were also given one date of arrival, but when I called the driver, he had a whole extra week later.  The driver who delivered us does not work for Olympus but is a subcontractor. I wish he did work w us from start to finish b/c he was more professional than any of the liars I dealt with. Last but not least, I was with the movers upon arrival as they took the bigger items out of the packing the so-called professionals did on moving day, and low and behold, the mirror I was charged extra to be packed is broken! I want everyone to know to stay away from this company! I do not intend to stop here. I am going to file with every on-line review site, the law offices back in Philadelphia, every veterans admin office, and the BBB.
