Long-distance move from New York to Rhode Island

RUN AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!

HORRIFIC! I have moved 15 times and this was the absolute WORSE experience ever. We were moving my daughter from a small NYC studio apartment to Rhode Island. They quoted us $1140 and same day delivery. When they arrived, they said they would not honor same day delivery, that it would be within 7 days. But wait it gets worse!

They brought 5 guys, of which only 2 were working. We had some items, like pillows that needed packing. One per box. It took them less than 1 hour to pack some loose items and load everything onto the truck. They then came back in and said the move was priced wrong and it was now going to be $4500! Yes, seriously!

My daughter had to be out so we had no choice. They told her if she didn’t agree they were going to dump her stuff on the curb.

ALL, this is a true story and I am seeking legal recourse.

STAY AWAY!

Long-distance move from New York to North Carolina

Bad Experience.

Hi, I recently used Olympus Moving and Storage to transport my furniture from Long Island, NY, to North Carolina. I recently had a bad experence with this moving company so much so that I decided to tell of my experience to forewarn others. The costs for the move will ultimately depend on the cubic foot of the boxes and the furniture you have. Therefore, they will send a person to come to your apartment and make an estimate which they call a "binding estimate". Don't believe for a minute that this estimate has any value whatsoever. This person assured me at least 5 or 6 times that my 20 boxes and furniture will take no more than 600 cubic feet. We signed a contract for 600 cubic foot for approximately $1600. Delivery date was told to be within 5 days of the move but no more. On the day of the move, the movers came and I have to admit they were quite nice and professional. However, after loading nearly all of my agreed upon belongings (and no more, because I'm very particular), I was told by the foreman Don that there may be 700 cubic feet. After they finished loading the truck, I was told it was now 745 cubic feet. Well, now I'm stuck, because I HAVE to move but they revised my "binding estimate" to $2100. Then they ask me to send an email to the company headquarters saying that I agree to the "new contract" which I had to, because I want to move my stuff. The foreman assured me that the goods will be delivered on Monday (4 days later)I drove down 2 days later to North Carolina and, to my disappointment, I was told that it's 5 business days FROM your requested delivery date or 8 days. That's pretty ridiculous. Now I have to live without furniture for 5 days.. I tried calling the dispatcher but the person is very unavailable and doesn't return my calls. I guess if you don't mind paying 25% extra for your goods, being told incorrect information, waiting a ridiculous amount of time, and then getting the runaround, then I would recommend this company because at least the movers were nice.

These guys were awesome!

Olympus Moving and Storage were wonderful. It was my first time hiring professional movers and I was a bit nervous, but they immediately put me at ease. The movers were very professional, efficient, and friendly. They did a wonderful job of moving all my stuff in a careful and prompt manner - including a bunch of fragile arts and furniture’s, which they transported safely and securely.

I am planning to move again in the next few months and the first thing that I will do after looking at places is give Olympus Moving and Storage a call to make sure they can move me again. I will definitely be using Olympus Moving for all of my future moves.

Beware.

We mistakenly booked this mover thinking it was another olympus mover that received great reviews.  It was a small move and they showed up with 4 guys when 3 were quoted and charged me extra.  He insisted on cash payment before they brought in furniture at new location.  The move took less time then they charged. After payment he said they broke an item because it was not wrapped. He offered to discount wardrobe boxes in exchange but then asked  for a tip.  We were feeling intimidated by this point so we gave them one but maybe it was not enough because he left abruptly.  So happy it's over!

Buyer beware.

Never work with a mover that wants cash only.  Was told minimum for local move was 3 hours at $376.  If move took longer would be charged an additional $94.00.  Son was moving at same time, his belongings out, mine in, 2 separate contracts.  Movers arrived at 9 a.m., finished at 11:30 a.m. (this included moving my son's belongings out - separate contract).  This should have been $376, I was told I owed $733 - for 5 hours at 564 plus a 10% tip per person.  I refused to pay this amount - I was told it only took this short a time because they "moved fast" and it should have taken 5 hours.   I had this same load moved from my house into storage - so I knew exactly how long it took the original movers - about 1-1/2 hours total.  Spoke with office, they agreed to accept the $376 and I paid out an $80.00 tip for the uninvolved workers.  I gave the driver $460.00  The driver was the problem, trying to get more cash than owed.  After this they still had my son's furniture on the truck to be delivered.  They called after they left and told me I shorted them $80.00, which I did not, and they backed down when I reviewed what I paid.  They felt I shorted them on the "tip."  At the other end, they refused to start unloading my son until he gave them $600 - which was above his estimate.  They arrived at 9:00 a.m., left at 3 p.m. and collected for 3 hours from me and 4.5 hours from my son.  Driver very dishonest, trying to charge for time not spent.  Also they dropped my file cabinet off the back of the truck and did not tell me, if my husband had not seen it, we would have been out that as well.  My son has numerous damaged boxes with broken items inside.  I packed these boxes, have moved many, many times with no broken items.  Boxes were heavy duty and showed up with dents and rips right through the cardboard.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to New Jersey

Worst move ever.

The problems started when the 'foreman' arrived to start the move.  I believe his name was Almad - he's Algerian - and gave me a quote that was over $1000 over my initial estimate.  Telling me that he was doing me a favor, he went outside to talk to his supervisor, Sam Siton and then came back over an hour later with a quote of $1875.  Be warned, the person who gives you the onsite estimate, also gets a comission on your move so of course its in their best interest to hike your move price up.  Since it was late in the day and I had another lease that had already started, I agreed.  This was my worst mistake - they didn't wrap or cover any of my furniture, complained the entire time that they were hungry and tired, and left my furniture until the end (after having put literally one small item in many boxes - remember the commission and the onsite price).  I had to leave at 8, so I locked up my condo and saw them, upon exiting, trying to fit my furniture into the truck.  We agreed they would stop and eat something on the way from Philadelphia to Plainsboro (about 50 miles) and I would see them in New Jersey.  It got to 10:30 and my fiance called them - they said it was late and raining and they would deliver it in the morning.  We found out they drove back to Brooklyn (passing by us) and moved all my stuff into another truck for another team to drop off the next day.  I spent the night on the floor.  Beware although the contract says its same day delivery they actually have small print that allows them up to 2 weeks..I've moved internationally and I counted at least 25 other moves, this was, by far the worst.  When my furniture showed up it was uncovered, scratched, wet, and none of my boxes were labelled.  And then, when I called the superviser - Sam Siton - he was unreachable that day and didn't really care about my complaint.  Please get another mover!

Olympus Movers.

Helped my cousin move out of her apartment and in with a boyfriend, or thought I was. She had these guys show up to do most of the work. I wasn't even paying and I was impressed. Speedy, efficient, they had the place packed up and my cousin's stuff out of there like the joint was on fire. Had everything delivered before we were ready, and they WAITED till we had the situation in order. All my life I heard New Yorkers were anything but polite, and the Olympus guys proved me wrong and were absolutely fantastic. My cousin was thrilled, I was thrilled, all around excellent service. Highly recommended. *Note:  My cousin paid, so not sure about the cost. Check at their website for details.

Stay away - scammers.

I do not believe this company deserves any stars at all.  Scam artists to the core.  I called months ago when I was shopping for a company to move us from Philadelphia to Arizona.  Arabella on the phone was very nice and swore there were no "Hidden" fees.  I honestly should of looked at these reviews first. But let's continue.  Retired military my ex-husband is, we agreed to move together.  I was very clear that we would have 2 houses to move and 2 separate condos to move into. The Philly houses were 2 miles apart and our Arizona residences are 5 doors down to ea other. I truly believe that they saw his military conditions and took advantage.  Site manager sam got to my exes house first as discussed on the day of the move. He went over certain items.  Then they just started packing the truck.  It was not until the truck was half full did sam inform me, nastily I might add, that we had too much stuff and that our 4800 dollar quote was now going to cost 11 thousand! I said no way.  What do we need to do to get back to 4800?  He said we can't get away w 4800 and that the quote was a lie. More than half my furniture and items I had 15 min to throw out.  And we ended up paying over 6 thousand.  Were the items quoted on my initial estimate no longer counted?  There were items "Missing" all a sudden.  Furthermore, when we did the quote, I specified 3 tvs total and one mirror.  If they were going to charge extra to pack those items, I should have had that in my quote.  Not pack them and then tell me!  Sam also kept on and on and on throughout the whole day talking about us tipping them 30%! We were also given one date of arrival, but when I called the driver, he had a whole extra week later.  The driver who delivered us does not work for Olympus but is a subcontractor. I wish he did work w us from start to finish b/c he was more professional than any of the liars I dealt with. Last but not least, I was with the movers upon arrival as they took the bigger items out of the packing the so-called professionals did on moving day, and low and behold, the mirror I was charged extra to be packed is broken! I want everyone to know to stay away from this company! I do not intend to stop here. I am going to file with every on-line review site, the law offices back in Philadelphia, every veterans admin office, and the BBB.

Fast and Reliable.

I needed to move from one city to another quickly and Olympus had my back. Their guys got everything in the truck without a hitch and met me right on time for the unload. Very polite. Very profession movers. Cost was reasonable and within the price range of what I was quoted. Definitely did not feel ripped off or otherwise disappointed. I'd definitly recommend these guys if you are in one of the states they service. .

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Texas

Terrible.

Where to begin. What a Rip off. So I had to move cross country and this company can back with the best price per cubic feet. In addition, I decided to get the "on-site estimate". The estimator came to the house when we had everything packed in the garage. It was actually already packed for a few weeks and in our garage. We told him only this stuff right here. The estimator notice we had about 8 bags full of clothes that we were going to bring in the car with us when we drove. He said that it wouldn't cost that much to ship, it only looks about 40 cubic feet but we need to put it all in boxes. He said he will add the an extra 40 cubic feet for the clothes, if we still decide to drive with them then we will have a little extra room in the truck. So the estimator wrote down the inventory said he will do us favor and over estimate the cubic feet so we aren't charged extra, then added an extra 40 feet on to the estimate total. On the day of pick up, the pick up driver looks around and says there is no way the estimator saw these clothes and to ship them would be an additional $600. Which makes absolutely no sense because it was 6 boxes, each was 8 cubic feet and they charge $4 per cubic foot which would total 192. He also said that they NEVER add additional cubic feet and basically that I have nothing but my word that says he added it on. He also was now picking things up like a few painting and the bigger baby toys and said that they all need to be in boxes or he isn't taking them, even though they are on the inventory. He kept saying that I must have added stuff to it after. He then says "the inventory says 32 medium boxes so that's all I am taking" Now of these 32 medium boxes, 6 of them were less than a cubic foot (a box of greeting cards, a box of small trinkets etc.) I thought I was paying per cubic feet? Each medium box is supposed to be 6 cubic feet. So why am I now getting charged per item? After many hours of arguing, we finally agree to take the clothes ourselves in our car. Mind you now we are still being charged for the extra 40 cubic feet that we aren't utilizing. There were 4 other people from my husbands company that was moving to texas as well. ALL 4 of them had a on-site estimate and the same guy who picked up our stuff picked up theirs. All 4 of them weren't there at pick up since they were at work so they weren't there to observe what was going on. All for of them were charged hundreds of dollars more than their estimates. I would have given them 1 star but the drop off crew was very pleasant. I have a 9 month old who was napping and they were sure to be very quiet and didn't wake her. That was the only good part about the whole experience. The manager is of no help either btw, he is rude and speaks to you as if you are an invalent. Keeps saying that it wasn't on the list (the clothes), even though the list didn't add up to the cubic feet of the estimate, I even added together the cubic feet of each item on the inventory and it didn't even hit 350, yet we were charged for 420. He keep saying how they never have ANY complaints, then he would say that it's always the small jobs that cause problems. So which is it buddy? What a joke that guy is. Honestly we would have cancelled the whole thing be we were so pressed on time by that point, so they took advantage of us. The best part is that a few days later we noticed a few items that we saw them pick up and load on the truck were now back in our garage behind some shelving. These people are a rip off. DO NOT USE.

Worst mistake hiring them!

This was the worst mistake I ever made. First, I was promised a moving kit- never got one. Then I had a person come to the hosue to give me a not to exceed quote. They guy made many promises of how professional everyone was and my things would be well taken care of- all lies. On day of move, it was an unmarked truck, ununiformed workers, and that "not to exceed" quote went way over. The guy obviously didn't bother to count my boxes correctly, so day of move I had more boxes than he wrote down, which cost me almost $700 more. Then, on arrival, my boxes were destroyed- ripped open, things falling out. Most everything was broken. Almost all of my furniture destroyed. And they lost 10 boxes and 4 large pieces of furniture. And to top it off, the "movers" I paid for, on the receiving end was the truck driver and some guy he picked up at the gas station and offered him $50 to move my things. If I pay for movers, I expect to have professional, licensed movers handling my belongings. The company is full of liars and incompetent people. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. The supervisors even lied to that response. I just hope that this helps protect others from trusting these people with their precious belongings. I lost almost everything. What's worse, I paid for it. I would never recommend them to anyone and it would be better if they were shut down. Just horrible all around.

Fantastic! If I could give Olympus Moving 10 stars I would.

I am so impressed with the FAST and FRIENDLY service I received. I usually use my cousins but they didn’t have time for me so I had to find a moving company ASAP. I searched online and Olympus Moving and Storage came up a few times and the reviews were mostly all good. Other companies offered "flat-rate" but when I called all the other I just didn't get the feeling that this was the case. After contacting Olympus Moving with a general list of what I had and where I was going, I received both a voice mail from Lisa Bell and an email with a quote. At this point, I knew I was dealing with a professional moving company.
The day of the move, Ben, gave me a call to let me know that they are on the way. This was fantastic news as I was eager to get things going. Ben, Josh and Don showed up, gave a quick walk through of my two bedrooms apartment and got to work quickly. No time was wasted and they knew exactly how to tackle each parcel as it was carefully passed through the door and onto the truck. The move in was just as quick (aside from the two story climb) as the move out. Olympus Movers tackled the job without hesitation or delay and even offered some advice as to what to cool places to check out given my new surroundings. All in all, it was one of the best experiences I have had doing business with a company in a long while. Not only did they come in and do the job that was requested, they did it efficiently and with top-notch customer service. That is hard to find in a company.
I will most definitely recommend Olympus Moving and Storage to anyone looking to move. The experience was pleasant and professional from start to finish - 10 Stars!

Do Not Use Olympus.

The worst experience ever and I would never recommend anyone chose Olympus as their movers.  We had Adam (an Olympus rep) come to our apartment and give us a quote.  He made a list with everything that was to be moved and a quote based on that.  Unfortunately, the three movers showed up (2 hours late) and said that they never saw a list and the only thing that was going to be moved was my two beds for the price I was quoted.  If I wanted to move anything additional else it would be additional plus we needed to pay for extra packing.  They were rude and talked to me like I was an idiot.  They continued to give us random numbers but in the beginning told us it was going to be more than $600 what we were quoted.  After going back and forth on pricing for two hours, my boyfriend and I asked them to leave.  We tried calling and speaking to a supervisor while all of ths was happening, unfortunately, it was after 6 and no one was on the clock.  They pulled up in a Uhaul truck that had Olympus magnets on the side, treated us like crap, and we were left with all of our stuff sitting in my living room.  We were supposed to move to Denver, CO the next morning and instead had to stay and replan our our move.  Going with the cheaper option that was Olympus moving was the worst mistake I have ever made.  Please do not make the same mistake I did. .

These guys were awesome!

The three biggest stressors in a person's life are marriage, divorce, and moving. For most, only moving is done multiple times in one's life. Searching for a moving company this time around was crazy. Prices were way out of range, or even too good to be true. Finally I found Olympus Moving and Storage.
Natalie answered my phone call and immediately eased my fears. She was professional and experienced so I immediately felt more comfortable about my upcoming move.
She called the day before to confirm my move.
On the big move day Leo called me around 20 or 30 minutes early to confirm that they would be on time. My three man moving team, Leo, Kith, and Shlomo, showed up on time. They each introduced themselves and then proceeded to work in an organized and skilled pattern. They were very professional throughout the move and all worked very hard.
Their prices that I got from Olympus Moving were more reasonable than the competing companies I had previously called. So I saved money while getting a high quality moving service. I feel very fortunate that I found Olympus Moving and Storage and I highly recommend them. Thanks again!

Great Service.

I wanted my family to have a stress-free moving experience, so I decided to search online for a reputable company. I decided to hire Olympus Moving and Storage. They were very careful not to damage my items, or nor did they take  a long time transferring my items to my new location. Unlike other companies I’ve used in the past, overall, I am pleased with the service of  Olympus Moving and Storage. I would highly recommend these guys to others who want a comfortable way to move and to be assured of having a good experience.

Thank you, Olympus, for caring for my personal items like they were your own. It's hard to find a company who treats you so well. The price was good (not super cheap, but with moving companies, you get what you pay for, so definitely do not let "cheap" be your only criteria), and their attitudes were pleasant and likeable.  You won't be disappointed.

This is a first rate moving company!  Moving is incredibly stressful and complicated and Olympus relieved more of that stress than I could have imagined.  They were professional, honest, committed to the outstanding price quotes, and most importantly took care of our belongings.  Leaving the moving and handling of your possessions to someone else is a nerve wracking affair but Olympus was outstanding.  I never once felt like just another customer - I felt like their only customer!  You will not be disappointed by hiring Olympus.

Unhappy.

I am surprised to see such glowing reviews. I can't believe this is the same company. I am having the same issues I read about previously. They gave me a binding quote. Then added $600 day of pick up and they arrived late. I'm glad not everyone had the same problem but I wouldn't take my chances again with them. It was too much of a hassle. I had a good experience with Olympus Moving. I’m surprised about the neg. comments. I highly recommend this company. I just recently used Olympus Moving & Storage for my move to NJ and I have to say I was very impressed with the service that I got from them.
